DESCRIPTION:

Why go out for seafood when you can enjoy restaurant-quality dining at home for half the price? That’s the beauty of our Creamy Garlic Mussel Pasta – luxuriously tasty, wonderfully affordable and easy to make as well. The perfect combination!

Find all the ingredients in-store at your nearest Shoprite for less, and treat your family to delicious, creamy, garlicky mussel pasta heaven!

 

INGREDIENTS:

225g linguine/spaghetti
450g frozen shelled mussel meat
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups milk
3 cloves of garlic, finely minced
1 large onion, finely chopped
60g butter
2 tbsp. flour, for thickening
Salt and ground black pepper, to taste

METHOD:

  1. Peel and chop the onion into 1 cm pieces. Melt the butter over the stove in a frying pan, and add the chopped onion and garlic.
  2. Turn the heat down to low, cover the pan with a lid and sauté the onion until it becomes translucent, for about 5 minutes.
  3. Once the onion is soft, stir in the flour, taking care to remove any lumps.
  4. Pour in the milk and turn up the heat until the milk starts to boil and thicken.
  5. Add the cream and mussels to the mixture, stir well and leave to simmer gently (covered) for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Add salt and black pepper to taste.
  7. While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pan of salted water to the boil, and add your pasta. Cook till al dente (with a slight bite to it), and drain.  
  8. Transfer the pasta to a large serving dish and pour the mussel sauce generously over the top. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese (optional but highly recommended).
